Each day is special.

Hi all,
Homework for today:
  1. The 7 factors (exclude characterisation) on Passage 4, half a page on the setting in passage 4, due tomorrow
  2. History Workbook, due Friday
That's all. I suddenly had a desire to take a break before doing my Japanese listening homework, therefore I am posting this. Just for everyone's info - the EOYs are coming, and even though there will be exemptions, mugging is still a must. Effective mugging, that is. Therefore, the CMC has in plan for you...something. I say something, cause things are fully finalised yet. By this Sunday, Zhu Cheng should have confirmed the details of how we're going to mug effectively.

Oh yes, I have photocopied the iSpark EOY exam papers for all subjects last year. Don't bother going to the library to look for them, or for that matter, any Sec 1 EOYs compilation earlier than 2008, cause they don't exist. If you all would like to photocopy them for personal practice, though the teachers should be running through with us, you can approach me to photocopy. If need be, you can borrow my photocopying card too. It had $1.82 at the last check, so I think it'll be fine?

Before I forget - those who didn't bring their brushes on Wednesday and took them from me, please do tell me and pay me tomorrow $0.80 if you plan to pay for them and use them as your personal brush. If not, please return them to me. I need to check how much I need to claim from the class fund. This is very important, as I spent somewhere around $8.80 on them. With the $5 photocopying card I bought...I'm sort of broke.

Cheers,
Darrel

Each day is special.

Hi all,

I understand that many of you are slightly muddled with the requirements of the random Poetry Anthology, which is due at the end of this week - 28/8/09.

Hence, I have enclosed herewith the requirements of the assignment for your convenient reference. I believe that Mdm Lim had given out sheets covering these requirements earlier this year, though some of you MAY have forgotten.

POETRY ANTHOLOGY
1. Include in it 7 published poems that you enjoy reading.
2. There should be a unifying theme (except war –sec 2) which interests you.
3. A cover page
Strictly Personal
My Take on….
Name, Class, Index number.

4. Include a brief introduction not more than 200 words. State rationale for your choice of topic/theme.
5. Each poem should be accompanied with a short commentary of not more than 200 words. The commentary should not be a cut-and-paste effort from websites or guidebooks. It should be a personal reflection: share why you are drawn to this poem, why you relate to it, or why you hae chosen to include it in your anthology. (maybe it’s considered an essential member of the canon, or its craft is brilliant).
6. Each poem should also be annotated in detail. The annotations should be typed/or written as neatly as possible.
7. Suggested themes- identity, love, death, life, nature, childhood & growing up, parent-child relationship, gender or racial discrimination, media. (any others you consider interesting).
Submit by week 9 (term 3) 28th August.

************************************************************************
My portfolio of Singaporean Poetry

Write a collection of 5 poems that centres around anything distinctly Singaporean.
Suggested themes: identity or nationhood, landscape, race or ethnicity, gender, lifestyle, dreams, family, school or education.

Your anthology should include:
1. A cover page –include a title (something that encapsulates and unifies the central issues/motifs of your poems). Your name, class and index number should be clearly stated on the cover page.
2. Include a brief introduction of no more than 200 words – about your thoughts and feelings about writing about Singapore. You should also explain the reason for the title of your anthology.
3. Each poem should be accompanied by a short reflection of not more than 200 words. Share why you have written these poems, what inspired you to write about this topic (focus on specific incidents or experiences), what choices you mad ein terms of craftsmanship (e.g. which literary devices to use, what poetic form to employ).
4. The anthology may be illustrated (minimally and with taste) and typed or neatly written.
Submit as for Poetry anthology - week 9 28th August

Thanks.

I believe that this post should be rather useful to many of you.

Cheers,
Zhu Cheng

Yup, that's all. For everyone taking Jap, remember to do your work for tomorrow! (Each sensei has diffferent homework, so I can't elaborate, but you all should be already starting on kanji for Chapter 11?)

After being on hiatus for approximately 2 months, my blog is active again. This is not redundant! Those of you who have not had the fun experience of being rick'rolled before, you will almost definitely get a chance if you go to my blog by the end of August. I know it's a bit late, but I was too bored to blog previously, so no funny remarks about my blog ACE. Oh yes, I promise that as of 31st August, anyone who is on my blog for more than 5 seconds will be rick'rolled.

I think I'm obsessed with rickrolling...

I think only CY and I know, but anyway, do you know that for CSE SMTP, IS is known as "Defence Science"? Anyway, go revise. :)

Also, a tip to Zhu Cheng: Survey using emails, the sample size will be too small to get you a decent amount of left-handers if you use the tagboard, which not many has tagged yet ( I believe) recently.

Hi all,

The following is a video of the young Michael Jackson singing - Who's loving you.

The song has also been sung by a 12 year-old boy called Shaheen during the last season of Britain's Got Talent, as mentioned in my personal blog - www.zcsaysownage.blogspot.com

Notice the striking resemblance of Shaheen's singing and young Michael's singing?

Reincarnation of MJ?

Shaheen sang the same song during MJ's memorial service.

Enjoy. :)

Shaheen:

Each day is special.

Hi all,
I have no idea why I'm posting this with my History, Japanese, Project's Day ppt, website and 200-word synopsis, and some random stuff for competitions. Maybe I'm going crazy. Let's hope I'm not :).
Anyway two more videos of Michael Jackson - "Man In The Mirror" and "We are the World". Brief introduction - "Man In The Mirror" is a very inspirational piece of music. Just listen to the chorus "I'm looking at the man in the mirror/I'm asking him to change his ways/I'm starting with the man in the mirror/If you wanna make the world, a better place, then you look at yourself, and you make the change!"
While "Man In the Mirror" inspires the heart, "We are the World" inspired and is still inspiring the world. It wasn't exactly by Michael Jackson, for it was writtten by both Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. This song consists of 45 artists, and this is one of the most touching charity singles Michael Jackson released. I seem to correcting myself a lot, but it couldn't really be said that it was only Michael Jackson who released it, it was released by USA for Africa. I knew you were fooled, "USA" doesn't stand for "United States of America", but "United Support of Artists". Did you hear the beginning part of "Heal the World" which our honourable Chairman, Chairman ZC, has posted up? Well, during the portion when the crowd held up pieces of paper to form the pictures of many children standing hand in hand, the song that was being sung by children was the chorus of "We Are The World".
Enough of my talking, now enjoy the show!

Cheers,
Darrel

Hi all,
Homework for the weekend as follows:
  1. Haiku analysis, due on Monday
  2. Chinese 西游记 homework by Monday
  3. ATTEMPT Geography Worksheet by Tuesday
  4. History Workbook Page 49-50, by Wednesday
I have conflicting views about Monday: On one hand, I want Mr Tan to finish all the songs that he hasn't covered. On the other, I want him to hold a Michael Jackson memorial service. But 1 thing that I DO NOT want him to do is to hold the music test.

Anyway, here's the music videos of "Billie Jean" and "Thriller". Fantastic videos that really did cement Michael Jackson's status as a king. Here you are. (I can't find the 13 minute version in one video of Thriller that I watched, cause I feel that song's assignment of the chorus is correct, for this one I'm not very sure. Anyway, I don't really have a choice, so I have to attch a split version. Actually only the second part is the song, so you could just listen to the second part. If you want to listen what I think is the more "accurate" version of the song, just tell me, cause I have the song in my thumbdrive. However, the video is generally correct, so nothing to worry. So sorry.)

Hi all,
Homework as follows:
  1. Formal Business Letter to be submitted tomorrow
  2. ATTEMPT the Geog worksheet (I shall not provide any interpretation for why I capitalised the first word)
Anyway, I wanted to keep this short, cause I just read Zhu Cheng's post. I agree with him, and I hope that the King of Pop has reached a better world, a world without bias, a world without criticisms, a world with peace. As such, I'm posting two Youtube videos, folowing Zhu Cheng's initiative. One is "Black and White" and the other "Beat It". I might be uploading "Billie Jean" too, for that is where the dance steps he is relatively famous for in our class, the "crotch grab" and the "moonwalk", are done. Anyway, after finishing your homeworks, enjoy the songs.

Darrel

Hi all,

The memorial service for Michael Jackson was held yesterday night, and channeled to s'pore media this evening.

Sad.

He was a super talented performer cum singer cum dancer cum money-maker.

He lived a pitiful life, I would say. I am really astonished by the extents people can go to diminish his achievements, his personality, his reputation. Scandals, scandals, media, paparazzi. Phew.

Hey, did u know that he was frequently whipped by his dad during his childhood? And his dad RUSHED to claim his $500 MILLION estate - NEVERLAND, immediately after MJ's death? Sigh.

Fast fact - MJ's full name - Michael Joseph Jackson.

Can some of u upload MJ's videos on the class blog prevent it from becoming a "homework blog"? I will post several videos myself later. I'm currently rushing some stuff.

Thanks.

RIP, Michael Jackson. You are, and will forever be the very best. Though I dun listen to your songs often, I appreciate your astounding efforts to setting new heights in our music industry, and your noble ideals of peace and kindness. Your contributions will be forever remembered and reminisced. May you be blessed in your journey ahead.

Cheers,
Zhu Cheng

TO MICHAEL JACKSON
Yours sincerely,
Zhu Cheng

Hi all,
Today is a special day for us for two reasons. One of them is most likely because today was the first day when Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris (who is 1-2 years younger than us :) ) spoke in public to the public. The second reason is because...(drum roll and view below)

  1. NO HOMEWORK
I thought this message will be a rarity for Term 3, and I think we shall not being seeing this again for a long long time. Sigh... Anyway, this applies in general though. If you are not general, do your Maths worksheets, look through your Science, read your Geog notes, and do your History online learning. Oh, remember to update Mr Krison on your RTA website.

Hi all.

I'm posting the details for the art mural, to ensure that all of u do it and do it right.

The basic instructions:

"
1. Read through this website and look at the images.
2. Research for images online / in books to work out your ideas for mural design.
3. Draw/Sketch out your mural design.
4. Evaluate your design.

You will design a mural (using dimension 18cm by 36cm) based on the theme of "Youth in Action". Youth in action refers to young people engaging in different realms of activity, such as sports, serving the community, being involved in art & cultural activities, etc. Your design can be in portrait or landscape format. Draw your design in pencil on A3 drawing paper.

You can do online research for images pertaining to the above, or you can even refer to magazines, newspapers, etc.

Your challenge would be to create a mural composition that has a sense of rhythm and harmony.

After you have completed your design, ask yourself these questions to evaluate your design:

1) Does the work have a sense of rhythm, like things are in movement?

2) Have I managed to create a sense of harmony using different elements?

3) Have I managed to capture the theme of Youth in Action?

Please bring your work and colouring materials to class next week ie. tomorrow. We will start the actual colouring in class.
"

U can access the following link for more info:

Hi Guys,

This is my first time posting on the class blog.

This may sound rather harsh, but by order of Mrs. Ann, the following student(s) please contribute to the discussion forum in Mrs. Ann's wetpaint - www.geogroxs2009.wetpaint.com, immediately:

Zi Ying

This is quite serious. Please reply to the two discussion threads on the wetpaint IMMEDIATELY, and include your name, class, and register no. Disciplinary action will be taken against you, and you will have to report to school on 2/7 (tomorrow) should you not reply to the discussion threads promptly. Mrs. Ann has already informed Mdm. Lim about this issue.

Thanks.

Hi all,
i know all of you seem confused (at least that's what I gather from Ziying) so this is Mdm Lim's instructions for LA elearning.

Dictionary for certain phrases in elearning:
IT Tool: The tool on the internet, duh
Blog: Our class blog (the blog used for your LA ACE)
Discussion Forum: On the iVLE, go to the "Language Arts 1I3" Discussion Forum

Also, CHECK YOUR iVLE. Actually, check your SMB as well, but that's the message from SMB from Mdm Lim: CHECK YOUR iVLE. We're not just depending on the official school website, Mdm Lim wants us to do other stuff as well. Details I'm not sure, cause I haven't really looked, but there's other stuff (I saw sth about William Wordsworth), so just go check, or you may have hell to pay when you come back.

Each day is special.

Hi all,
Last Thursday and second last day of the term! I can't wait! Teachers, having spent their energies on wondering how to bully us best in the June holidays, seem to be getting tired of giving daily homework, so what's here is homework that we need to hand up tomorrow. 今日の宿題はこれです(Basically means today's homework is this):
  1. 反思表 (This ISN'T Jap, it's Chinese)
それから、終ります!(Means after this, it's finished!) I guess we all basically have increased our deep respect for both 房老师 and Mrs Ann after their generous gesture in letting us watch 《功夫》 in class and treating us to Nasi Lemak respectively. Anyway, remember to go to Mr TanBB's blog, where we have our music notes. And that's all!

Cheers,
Darrel

P.S. Remember to post messages on your blog! I have great plan to write stories like Mark, except that my content and writing style will be different (obviously, no offence). Watch out for it!

  2. Science worksheets on Plants given today
  3. All the Geog worksheets Mrs Ann's given us
  4. History ACE Project

All due 1 month minus 2 days. Yup, that's all.

EDIT: Do your Science ,just in case

Hi all,
So sorry for late post, just arrived home and ate dinner. Last Tuesday of the Term, but why does it seem like the middle of Term 2? No offence to teachers, obviously. So anyway, homework:

  2. INTENSE REVISION FOR TOMORROW'S ASSIGNMENT
  3. MA102.5.J1, by tomorrow
  4. Science Worksheet on Respiration, not very sure when exactly it's due.
I have no idea why I'm still typing out my INTENSE REVISION messages, but I suppose it's necessary. Anyway, RTA groups are out, and for those who haven't checked their SMB yet, just a quick summary:
  • Aloy Oh, Ziying, Rayson, Matthew, Mark
  • Yi Zhe, Adrian, Justin, Wei Ren, Shilin, Xu Yi
  • Ernest, Jin Yang, Dexter, Aloy Poh, CJ, Zhu Cheng (OMG! 2 AEP, one confirmed talented actor, epic win liao)
  • Cheng Yao, myself, Han Wei, WY, Tim Toh (No WY, I WILL not be soloing and I need someone to help me with the blog)
  • Ming En, Tim Ling, Tim Lung, Yi Pin, Samuel
Yup yup. For the ISP, I really have no idea what's the password and username, could someone please please please enlighten me? That's all, and good luck for the Assignment!

  4. IS Flash Website, due tomorrow.
Apparently the teachers have no wish to go easy on us. Anyway, sort of change of plan for the BBQ party, right now the CMC is in a sticky patch that I shall decline to comment further on (Why TH do I sound like a spokesman/Squealer?) Anyway, yeah, for the time being, Adrian's house is not a viable choice, and the idea of East Coast was raised. I know many live in the West, and unless we hold the BBQ party in the CBD and/or Sentosa, which are both obviously not very feasible, there's no perfect solution. I'm not saying that we should compromise those who live in the west, but yeah. That's sort of the reason why CMC 很烦恼. Anyone who has an idea, do inform Zhu Cheng and Aloysius Oh. 私はbystanderです。Guess the meaning. That's all, have to rush flash.

Hi all,
Minimal homework (HOORAY!):
  1. Lit Essay on Animal Farm, most likely due Thursday
  2. IS Flash Website, due Friday
And that's all! Anyway, do remember to vote regarding the BBQ party. I quote Zhu Cheng, "our class has worked quite hard" and we really must celebrate it. Apart from Mrs Ann's Nasi Lemak Treat, we still must have our own party! So I think it was Our Leader, Chairman Yong Zhu Cheng who advocated this idea of a BBQ. Obviously, it's your choice whether you want to invite the teachers. Yeah, that's all.

Cheers.

Hi all,
I know that there's relatively (key word: relatively) very little homework, and possibly no homework to submit tomorrow, but still, just some points to take note:
  1. LA Satire, Allegory and Fable (The title, if I'm not wrong), look through it at the very least
  2. INTENSE REVISION (which I think everyone has done except for me, cause I'm doing it) FOR CHINESE TEST
  3. Random Maths ACE to submit by tomorrow.
  4. MA102.5.E2, due Monday
  5. Science Worksheet on filtration, due Tuesday
  6. LSS Ex 3, due Tuesday
  7. Geog Paper will be given back tomorrow, remember to bring on Monday
  8. IS Flash Website, remember to bring it tomorrow it you have done at least one part of it. save in CS 3, if not you cannot doing anything tomorrow.
That's all! BTW, another piece of good news: We beat 1I2 5-2. Problem was, it was 5-1 till Justin switched me on at the dying seconds of the game and Yi Xuan from 1I2 managed to score. Proven: I suck, I really make people very angry (class blog, certain verbs are not usable, however appropriate they are) and I'm better at cheering for the team than playing on the team. ie Unless 5 players get swine flu, don't send me up. Apologies to the whole team again.

Cheers (though I don't exactly feel good),

1 gold in long jump,

1 bronze in triple jump,

3rd in 4X400m relay,

2nd in 12X200m relay,

so 1I3 has a total of 1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze, 2 fifth positions, 1 seventh position, 1 3rd position and 1 2nd position in relays. And this adds up to 88 points.

And this is what we have achieved so far, which is commendable results for an academic-pro class.

Mkeeeeeee, Junkie Crabtalker

PS. Kudos to those who organized the team squad and relay practice, I think Wei Ren and Aloy Poh, deserve praise for that, and also to those who participated in the relays and individual events, for taking time to participate in the sports meet in the middle of exam period. I am sure all the competitors have worked very hard and I am sure your time and energy have paid off.

Sorry for my lateness in homework, was very tired on Friday after coming back from CSM and reached home only at 11pm yesterday. So here it is:
  1. Animal Farm ACE, due Tuesday
  2. Chinese worksheet, due Tuesday
  3. INTENSE REVISION FOR THE LAST (CHINESE) TEST
  4. Tidying up of Maths file by Tuesday, to whom it may be applicable to.

  6. History Defence Plan for Malaya/Singapore, for those who haven't done it.
  7. Flash Interactive Website, due by Week 9, but start work on it.
  8. RTA Modulation, for those who haven't done it, do it fast
And that's all! I'm still trying to figure out better lyrics for "Animal Farm, Animal Farm", so it is here that I shall leave you.

Cheers,
Darrel

Each day is special.

Hi all,
Congrats to the team for actually winning a Sec 2 team! Kudos to Timothy Lung and Justin for their really really FANTASTIC performance in the match. Obviously, we cannot ignore vital people like Jin Yang (who really did seem to be invisible, among the tall Twin Towers we know as Sec 2), Wei Ren, Matthew, Aloysius Oh, Aloysius Poh, and to all the others (I'll edit this post, cause I'm not very sure who did and who did not play. Sorry for forgetting you.) But to the main issues now:
  1. LA ACE, preferably tomorrow, latest Monday
  2. Chinese File, by tomorrow. Arrange it according to the content page, and you're supposed to create a new devider section for 阅读学习单 and 少年文摘 worksheets RESPECTIVELY ie each one of this gets their own dividers. However, I think I need a disclaimer, as I'm thinking about what happened regarding 少年文摘 and the number of 好词好句 you all had to find.
  3. INTENSE REVISION FOR CHINESE TEST next Tuesday
  4. The huge stack of Science worksheets. Though Ms Chen says that we do not need to do, I'm personally not very sure about what Mr Tan would be feeling after he returns from Reservice...Hope he's still the nice Science teacher whom we know.
  5. Read your notes on Vulcanity in Geog. I thought there were like six types of volcanoes according to shape: Fissure (which is not inside), Ash and Cinder, Basic (or shield), Acid (or dome),  Caldera (not inside) and Composite (not inside)?
  6. Geog Folding and Faulting Resource Package, due on Week 9 (or 1o, not very sure cause sabbaticals being RESCHEDULED)
  7. History Defence Plan of Singapore for those who have not done it
  8. INTENSE REVISION FOR IS TEST tomorrow
  9. RTA Modulation, for those who have not done it,by tonight, or Mr Krison will really skin you alive
  10. For those in the CA, DO YOUR SCRIPT, cause if Mdm Lim comes in to listen, you won't get seriously scolded by her.
And that's all! You know, I'm still lamenting my loss of 1.5 points altogether due to my fundamental errors (messiness, linking to the question), but I feel much brighter thinking that there's MUSIC! Remember to bring your music books, though we most likely won't we using it cause we need to learn how to sing "I found a sparrow lying on the ground". I think the actual name is "Take these wings", cause that works when you search for it on youtube.
Sorry for droning on, start revising and doing your LA Animal Farm ACE/Blog post!

Cheers,
Darrel

Each day is special.

Hi all,
Finally, I'm back here on this platform, stating today's homework/any remaining revision needed! Though I'm not saying that WY usurped by position, cause he did it due to my lateness in returning home and therefore the blog, I'm still glad to be back here.
Homework:
  1. Tidy up your Chinese File by Friday. Yes, I know, many of us can't be bothered too, but you need to now.
  2. Huge pile of Mr Tan KK's worksheets/notes...Though personally I have no idea whether or not we should actually be doing this, it might be good test revision:)
  3. Hand in any extra worksheets that you have not handed in to Ms Chen tomorrow and she will mark it and return to you by Friday.
  4. Do your History defence plan of Singapore/Malaya by Thursday.
  5. INTENSE REVISION FOR IS TEST this Friday
  6. INTENSE REVISION FOR JAPANESE TEST (because I know quite some people in our class take Japanese) this Thursday
  7. Japanese Portfolio (once again for those people who do take Japanese) this Thursday
Yup, that's all! Just to brief you on our CMC initiatives...OK, I know it was haphhazardly planned, cause I only came up with the idea when Ms Chen said it was her last lesson, but still, it's an INITIATIVE. Anyway, what we basically did was to purchase a pen and a pair of chopsticks for Ms Chen from tht Mother's Day booth. We only did this due to the lack of time and the fact that it should appeal to women...it should, shouldn't it?
Furthermore, as Matthew has mentioned, everyone might like to come down this Thursday to cheer the football team on? Quote Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird: "Bravery is when you know you're licked anyway, but" you still go down there and fight. Let us show our class bravery yeah? Maybe we can have a goal advantage of 1-0 because of that:( Also, if you can make it, do try to come down to support our class in the 12x200 and (if I'm not wrong) 4x100. It's not because I'm in it (I do have my limits, you know:)) but it' s to show class spirit. If we win, maybe you all can start singing Viva La Vida (which DOES NOT mean "Living of Friends", by the way. I know "viv" means life, but here, "Viva la Vida" actually means "Death and all his friends" ) to the others. If you get can the meaning. No offence to other classes.
Well, that's all. Sorry for a VERY VERY long post.By my standards.
Cheers,
Darrel

Hi all,

This is not very relevant to homework or whatever, but I have a bit of a complaint about the blogskin to make. Getting straight to the point: There are some irritating popups that persistently pop up in my screen and have so far managed to hang my computer and close all my windows about ten times. Maybe the admin can commission Mark to get rid of them during recess.

Hi all,
Sorry for the late posting, as I just finished my dinner and am reading John's Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. I know I should be revising Animal Farm, but it's a nice book, and it sort of like deals with an economic recession. Anyway, to cut the crap:
  1. Letter from Afghanistan, most likely due tomorrow
  2. Bring your Animal Farm, all Animal Farm worksheets, and the essay which was about Charlie Gordon (The one with part a and part b and was worth 25marks)
  3. REVISE FOR YOUR ANIMAL FARM on Thursday

Each day is special.

Hi all,
Um... I seem to have lost my blue plastic folder containing nearly all my notes, homework and finished stuff. I put it on my table during recess, then after the rushed amendations to my Flash after IS, I returned to class and got my stuff from outside after the ppl cleared the classroom. (Sorry ZC for not helping out).
It is blue and is in a very noticably bad condition. there is about 1-2 cm thick of paper inside, which coincidentally also has my RTA stuff so I cant do the recording. All the paper in the file has my name on them. I only noticed that it was missing (along with my chocolate bar from the class cleanliness check, but that's beside the point) at about this afternoon. So if anyone finds it, please bring it on Monday, many thanks. The chocolate bar would also be greatly appreciated.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and bad grammar,
cy

Hi all,
Before I post homework for the weekend, Ernest, an email would be sufficient, cause the blog is well, public, so it might not be so good to "blatantly" post this onto the blog, so erm it might be better if you could delete it. 1. LA 25 Quotes, most likely due on Monday
  2. INTENSE REVISION FOR ANIMAL FARM (Is there any better method apart from referring to websites like sparknotes and reading the book itself 10 times per day?)
  3. CL 25 好词好句 due Monday
  4. Science Puzzle, which will take you at least 30min if you are neat, by Tuesday
  5. INTENSE REVISION FOR GEOGRAPHY ON MONDAY ONE WEEK AFTER HISTORY

  7. INTENSE REVISION FOR IS TEST NEXT FRIDAY
  8. RTA voice recording, due Monday

Hi all,
Apologies for not posting up homework yesterday. Cause the milk is spilt, let's move on to today's homework:
  1. LA Animal Farm Worksheets, with the exception of the Reading Guide, due Monday. However, bring all your handouts tomorrow. True, Mdm Lim has said something about "finish your animal farm over the weekend", but previously, she mentioned that the worksheets "should already have been done".
  2. Your Blog! It's going to be graded by Han Wei over the weekend, so make sure you meet his requirements of a) 5 blog posts, 150-250 words b) 3 comments posted by you, 50-75 words c) One multimedia activity, preferably your photo montage.
  3. LA Compre on Mr Bose, add the 54 words to the summary.
  4. CL Punctuation worksheet, due tomorrow.
  5. Maths Worksheet, for those who haven't handed up, due tomorrow.

Hi all,

I believe some of you have misconceptions regarding the word limit of the blog posts and comments for the blogs you have for LA. Well, I shall quote some parts of the rubrics I have: "EACH blog post SHOULD be at between 100 words to 250 words in length" and "comments that ARE at least 50 words(75 words MAXIMUM)". This should clear up the misconceptions that some of you have. If you still have doubts, come to me tomorrow and I will show you the rubrics.

Oh, and posts posted after this Friday (17 April 2009) 11.59 p.m. will not be considered for Term 1.

Happy posting,

Each day is special.

Hi all,
Even though Cheng Yao has posted up homework(I know, cause I asked him to do so, thanks CY) a few things to take note of tomorrow.
  1. The photoshop thing is due, and mine is really very screwed. Mr Cheong said he would teach us about text, clone stamp and etc, but if its due tomorow, then how? Plus my face colour is so very different from that of the other two characters of the movies in my poster. Plus, I didn't save my original picture as a .jpg! Do tag is reply to this. Maybe it's my fault.
  2. Remember to go to Victoria Theatre. Yes, I know everyone's tired (I think). But still, we need to support Jin Yang. Not only that, we will only be able to watch something similar only like when we are Sec 4/in NS. Plus, it's our SCHOOL HISTORY.
  3. There's MUSIC tomorrow! Being your music books and I hope that tomorrow will be a fruitful (and FUN) session!
Remember to do your homework, for failure to do so may result in horrific consequences. (E.g. having to see the teacher at 1.20pm and...)

Cheers,
Darrel

[now edited without the comments]
Hi all,

Finally, after a long silence I am posting. These are the Debate notes I took yesterday at 27/3/09 Fri JG's competition. HCI won Nanyang. And there are no [commentaries]. Proposition 1: Nettie Choo
Definitions
politicians - elected officials.
immunity - absolute immunity from domestic charges
prosecution - charges against the politician
our stand is to prevent abuse of the system excludes diplomatic immunity Applies only to democratic countries responsibility of judiciary system jud sys should not be used as a shield Opp places the pol.s above the reach of the law. Everyone should have to face a fast trial to prevent any future crimes Emo trauma for victims[knowing that their attacker/assailiant etc. is still on the loose] Undermines Justice Should have no exceptions Immune to charges:
allows the person to challenge the jud. sys.
lets the person run rampant
Jus bcos u r a politician, doesnt mean you can undermine the rights of other people. Proposition 2: Seah Ee Wei [Best Speaker] Judges are most neutral, best judge
Law is decided by the people. Hurts justice Unfair:
Treated differently
If have betrayed trust, , then they deserve it
==> Should not represent us any more, figurehead tarnished ==> Not just themselves, they represent the entire country
Welare of society
Should be able to prosecute
Run rampant during free term
Can spread lies etc
Cannot be allowed to abandon their integrity
Protect society.
Prop 3: Nicolette Tan
Highly scrutinised by the media /= will not commit crimes.
Abuse of immunity
Justice
Opp: Justice unnecessary
Not mutually exclusive to prop policy.
Wont know whether pol. is guilty or framed
Ballot only happens before elections [later rebutted that the prop is assuming that everything they do is based on the ballot box.]
Sacred duty,
Immunity should not take over.
Justice is all about treating everyboly equally [that's correct]
other politicians will not really target politicians because of their policies
Govt clears name = better

Look out for the Opposition speeches by Lee Kah How, Ng Li Ki [Our President], and Darion Hotan and also Reply speeches by both Prop and Opp!
Coming soon as soon as I can be bothered to type them out.
Regards with very tired fingers,
Cheng Yao
gakk... cant type any p.s.es this time.

H iall,
Homework this weekend:
  1. LA Dialogue Worksheet, do any two of seven exercises, (I think) you don't base it on any story, hand in on Monday
  2. REVISE for your Comprehension Test
  3. CL 20好词好句from少年文摘 , due Monday
  4. Geography Worksheet, due Monday
Yup. HCI beat NYGH in Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Competition Quarter-Finals! Hooray! But I flunked the Current Affairs Quiz. A mediocre 40 !@#$%^& marks our of 100. That's VERY VERY BAD, considering the fact that I made a careless mistake for one of them. Sigh, nvm. That's all

Cheers,
Darrel

Each day is special.

Hi all,

SINGAPORE : Singapore's Housing and Development Board Lease Buyback Scheme started on Sunday, after two years in the works. Five applications were received in the first hour. The scheme is designed to help cash-poor, asset-rich seniors meet their retirement needs.72-year-old Koh Chiong Eng is afraid he may lose his petrol pump attendant job soon because of his age. If that happens, meeting daily expenditure will become difficult, as his wife does not work. Hence, they were among the first in Singapore to sign up for the Lease Buyback Scheme - where 11 DB buys back the tail-end of the lease of their flat, leaving them with a shorter 30-year lease. They will get a first-time payout ofS$5,000, and monthly payments of about S$600 till death. The amount is calculated based on the estimated valuation of their 3-room flat - at S$236,000.The payout varies depending on the valuation of the flat, done by independent assessors. An estimated 25,000 households are eligible for the scheme, and concerns have been raised about some seniors' reluctance to part with their properties. But it is not an issue with Mr Koh. He said: "I can't take the flat with me if I die. It is better to sell it to the government and get money to meet my daily needs. "Some seniors are also reluctant because of the Asian value of leaving property to their children. Commenting on the issue. National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said: "I hope at the same time, their children will also look after them. But you and I know that this is not a given." Seniors will get to stay in their homes for 30 years after they sign up. And if they are still alive after the 30-yearlease, alternative arrangements such as nursing home stays will be made for them. Mr Mah said: "The benefit of the scheme really is, you stay where you are and you get a rental income. My instruction to HDB is to make sure that as many eligible elderly households as possible are familiar with the scheme." So HDB will organise exhibitions at 11 towns with a high elderly population. Officers will also go door-to-door to invite the elderly to the exhibitions. To be eligible, home owners must be 62 years old and above, enjoyed only one housing subsidy, and almost paid off their home loan. The scheme is not open to those living in four-room or larger flats. Mr Mah said this is because they have the option of downgrading to unlock the value of their homes, and get cash. But he said HDB may consider extending the scheme to them if there is sufficient demand. - CNA/ms
